EROFT WEEK 2: Oracle Deck

Self Reading:

  • Significator: 9 of Cups Revered. Dissatisfaction with my current situation.
  • The past : 2 of Wands Reversed. Lack of planning, fear of the unknown, inequality. Well I am feeling that given my current dissatisfaction is tied to that.
  • The present:  8 of Pentacles. Opportunity, education, apprenticeship. I am hoping this means an opportunity to do the thing I wasn’t able to do, leading to my dissatisfaction.
  • What is hidden: Emperor Reversed. Inflexibility or rigidity.  Someone is either being inflexible or I am. Not sure yet.
  • Obstacles and challenges : Page of Cups. Creative beginnings, or guidance. Not sure how that is an obstacle, but okay.
  • Surroundings: Page of Pentacles Reversed.  Lack of planning, lack of progress. Certainly at current feeling the latter.
  • Advice: Ace of Swords. Progress, mental clarity, breakthrough. I’ll need to find a breakthrough?
  • Outcome: The Fool. Free spirit, spontaneity,  new beginnings. Not sure what but looks like my outcome will be good.

Oracle Deck:

I’ve always wanted to design my own custom tarot deck, so I thought this would be an excellent time to try my hand. But with a personal twist. If I were to make the full deck, it would involve all the characters from my friends and mine only roleplaying game.

For time, I only did the four Queens, each of them four characters.

Queen of Swords is woman of great wisdom but also could be a woman of great sorrow. I felt my character that is also named after myself would be best fitting in her grim and lonely role as Eternal Empress and keeper of balance.

Queen of Wands is my friend’s character Ifritah, another Empress of another realm. Inspired by djinn, she is the element of fire, and a woman of great will ambition. She fit the bill perfectly for the role.

Queen of Cups is another royal lady of our group, Charybdis, royalty of an aquatic race on another planet in our little story. SO with the water element and representing emotions, Carrie felt the best fit.

Queen of Pentacles is actually not royalty per se in our collaborative story, but she might as well. Jezebel as a self-employed businesswoman and gang leader who enjoys the material things in life was perfect for the role,

So the deck would be used in person, or I could use it physically with them online, having a connection with the deck through the characters and stories we’ve created.

Research:

For science, I have decided to perform three readings from three different people, two online, one in the person. One of the online querents when thinking of their question will not tell me until after the reading and the other will inform me of the question while shuffling the deck. The in person querent will be the usual.

#1 Online, Question Unknown at first.

Signifier (the Querent): The Star. Loss, Privation, Abandonment. Or Hope or bright prospects, increase of inspiration or potential.

Past: Justice. Equity, Rightness. Karma, or recompense. In your past, you had some sort of vindication, or good return on something, or a decision in your life.

Present: Nine of Cups. Satisfaction, contentment, fulfilment. Something (likely the thing Justice indicates) has made you content in the present state.

Future: Page of Wands. Progress, discovery, exploration. Or man, a lover, or a messenger. He will bear favorable testimony to you. Or you will make a new journey (literal or otherwise).  Or maybe this person will lead you to your discovery or companion on this journey.

Querent’s question: Is my move to England going to be worth it?

The great thing about this is this is new acquaintance, and not an online friend I knew for long, and was not intimate with, nor knew their question. And yet, here we have a rather fortuitous fortune being told.

#2 Online: Question Known before drawing

Signifier (the Querent): The High Priestess Reversed. Passion, ardor, conceit. Hidden agendas in someone else, yourself, or subconscious.

Past: Eight of Wands. Great hope, persistence, oppurtunity, action that is lead to a happy end. Something you did in the recent past lead to a good outcome or you started planning towards one.

Present: Queen of Swords. Organization, perception, eloquence, independence. Or mourning, sadness, absence, embarrassment. Either you are hard at work organizing, or at current at a loss due to something between the past and the present?  Worried your goal may b   e hindered?

Future: Five of Wands. A search for riches or gain, competition, tension, disagreement, conflict, diligence, a test. Either during the summer or leading up to there is to be struggle or something or someone testing you to reach your goal. You need to fight for what you want.

Querent’s question: Will I have any interesting adventures this summer?

Querent this time is a more familiar person but not one I’m wholly intimate with. It is a mixed fortune I would have to say, but if they focus and work hard, and never give up, they can overcome. Or perhaps their adventure is the conflict?  Who knows?

#3 In Person

Signifier (the Querent): Justice. Equity, Rightness. Karma, or recompense. In you are a vindicated or just person, one making a huge decision.

Past:  Three of Cups Reversed. Betrayal, or stifled creativity. One has either suffered some sort of betrayal or creative block.

Present: The High Priestess Reversed. Hidden agendas in someone else, yourself, or subconscious. Conceits. Some betrayal possibly?

Future: Five of Wands. A search for riches or gain, competition, tension, disagreement, conflict, diligence, a test. Either during the summer or leading up to there is to be struggle or something or someone testing you to reach your goal. You need to fight for what you want.

Querent’s question: Should I continue my work even though it is something I’ve never done before?

Querent this time is a fellow ITP student, and one I’m fairly close with.

Observations from the three readings, despite the querents finding coincidences in their readings, but I feel like there is some sort of disconnect with the discussion online than in person, despite being somewhat close to these people. I feel like the in person is more engaging than online. Ironically most of my day to day interactions are through the internet.
